Ananya Sampradaya 2009

Sampradaya is a unique festival being organised by Ananya on May 10th 2009 at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja.
The theme of the festival this year is the magnum opus Sangeetha Sampradaya Pradarshini with specific focus on compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar.
The Sangeetha Sampradaya Pradarshini is one of the most relevant musical texts of the 20th century authored by Subbarama Dikshitar who was the grandson of Baluswami Dikshitar, the brother of Muthuswami Dikshitar. It was a mammoth effort first published in Telugu in 1905, comprising around 225 kritis of Muthuswami Dikshitar along with compositions of other composers such as Thyagaraja, Shyama Shastry, Krishnaswamy Ayya, etc.
The significance of the Pradarshini lies in the fact that it is one of the very few musical texts laying great emphasis on the practical aspects of music such as gamakas. It contains one of the most comprehensive and practical demonstrations of the various types of gamakas used in carnatic music.
Ananya undertook the daunting task of translating this text into Kannada under the able authorship of Sri Anandarama Udupa with editorial inputs from Late Sri S K Ramachandra Rao.
Ananya Sampradaya 2009 is a day long musical festival intended to celebrate this monumental occassion. There are various events planned for the day - including group singing of Dikshitar's composiitons, quiz contests, multimedia presentations, etc.
